BACHELOR OF PHARMACY (HONS.)

 
Giving importance to pharmacy profession and its role in the improvement of health care systems, USTC authority established the Department of Pharmacy in 1993 under the Faculty of Basic Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences. It is the first private University in Bangladesh where a Pharmacy course has been introduced. The Pharmacy course of USTC has been accredited by Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh. In addition to arranging for the foundation of a liberal education as well as an extensive background in the sciences, Department of Pharmacy, USTC actively engages in providing a proper professional education. This has turned out to be a formidable job since the possibility exists that the Pharmacy graduates may enter any one of a number of different areas of professional activities.


TEACHING FACILITIES
Bachelor of Pharmacy course is a four-year programme. The academic plan is based on the UGC and Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh approved course and curriculum. All courses are supplemented by lectures, tutorials, demonstrations and practical laboratory assignments. Sufficient lecture halls and laboratory facilities are available for the Department.

LABORATORY FACILITIES
Laboratory facilities for different courses exist as per requirement of the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council, which include different individual laboratories for individual courses with modern equipment. In addition to these laboratory facilities USTC has been fortified with the co-operation of well-established Pharmaceutical Laboratories in Chittagong, which offer facilities both manpower and technical for the training of our pharmacy students. ADMISSION
Students having minimum GPA 3 in SSC & HSC individually in Science or Equivalent with Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics or Statistics may apply for admission into the B. Pharm. (Hons.) course. Selection is on the basis of merit. The selection process comprises a written and viva voce examination. The written test is based on HSC level English, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and General knowledge. Foreign students are to submit application direct to the Office of the Founder Vice-Chancellor, USTC through mail. Admission Forms and relevant papers (Fee & others) available from Bangladesh Missions abroad. Local applicants may obtain forms from authorized Banks in Dhaka & Chittagong.

The B. Pharm (Hons.) course is a four years programme. The curriculum is divided into four different parts to cover in four subsequent year (Part) final examinations as given below:

EXAMINATION
The performance of a student is evaluated by continuous evaluation that comprises class test, class  ttendance, tutorial, homework/assignment and year (part) final examinations. There are four Part final B. Pharm. (Hons). examinations as per the existing curriculum. The examination system is as under:

B. Pharm. (Hons.) Par II

End of 2nd year University examination

B. Pharm. (Hons.) Par III

End of 3rd year University examination

B. Pharm. (Hons.) Par IV

End of 4th year University examination

INTERNSHIP
After completion the four year B. Pharm. (Hons.) course the students take part in six weeks inplant training programme in well-established Pharmaceutical laboratories in Bangladesh.

REGISTRATION AS A PHARMACIST
After passing the Part IV Final B. Pharm. (Hons.) Examination the Pharmacist gets registration with the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council (BPC).

The fee structure of B. Pharm. (Hons.) course of USTC is very competitive and the current financial requirement is as under:

Total Taka Ninety Thousand only is payable at the time of admission into 1st year in the form of Bank Demand Draft / Pay Order in favour of Janasheba Foundation. For every six months the students have to pay Tk. 30,000.00 (Taka Thirty Thousand only) as tuition fee at the beginning of the next six months

Total Two Thousand Five Hundred US Dollars only payable to Janasheba Foundation, Bangladesh at the time of admission into 1st year in the form of TT. For every six months the students have to pay US$ 1000.00 (US Dollar One Thousand only) as tuition fee at the beginning of the next six months. The tuition fee will be deposited to the USTC accounts department in the form of Bank Draft, Pay Order or Cash on monthly basis at the following rates within first 10 (ten) days of every month without fine. The students (both Bangladesh! and Foreign) will have to pay tuition and yearly fees so long as they continue to remain students. Anyone failing to pay tuition fees within 10 days from the commencement of next six months has to pay Tk. 1,500.00 (One Thousand five Hundred) as re-admission fees. Failing this the case will be dealt with by the Review Committee and the decision of the Syndicate shall be final.
